British Standard Cupboards by Plain English - How are cupboards are made.

MATERIALS

Focused on thoughtful design and traditional craftsmanship, British Standard's cupboards, larders, solid wood drawers, open shelves, wardrobes and worktops are made of carefully selected quality materials.

Sustainability is a core value and we build our products to last.

The façade and door frame of our British Standard cupboards are made from 25mm thick Poplar with a moisture resistant MDF central door panel and drawer front. The door is hung on drawn brass butt hinges and fastened with a brass magnetic catch. The carcass is European Birch ply with a proprietary hard-wearing, wipeable resin finish for ease of care.

Cupboards are supplied with adjustable metal feet at the back and arrive with removable wooden ‘skids’ front and back for transportation. The front legs and plinth are 45mm longer than required, for scribing to the floor on site.

Our drawer fronts are 25mm thick MDF, on a traditionally dovetailed solid Beech drawer box, with a Beech faced ply base. They are lacquered and run on soft-close metal runners.

Open Shelves and Open Slatted Shelves have ‘boarded’ ply interiors top coated white, ready for painting and slatted shelves are solid Beech with a lacquered finish.

End Panels are moisture resistant MDF and all Cupboards, Book Ends and End Panels come top coated white, ready for painting.

Floor Cupboards

Standard Floor Cupboards are made from our European Birch ply faced with a proprietary hard-wearing, wipeable resin finish for ease of care. They include one adjustable shelf in the same materials and are lipped with solid beech. The shelf supports are turned Beech dowels.

Wall & Counterstanding Cupboards

Our Wall and Counterstanding Cupboards are made from our European Birch ply faced with a proprietary hard-wearing, wipeable resin finish for ease of care. As with the Floor Cupboards, they include one adjustable shelf in the same materials and are lipped with solid beech sitting on turned Beech dowels.

Glazed Cupboards & Open Shelves

Our Glazed Cupboards are made from our European Birch ply faced with a boarded interior - ready for you to paint whatever colour you like. The shelves in these cupboards are also primed ready for painting. We love a different colour interior of these Cupboards!

Tall & Bedroom Cupboards

Tall Cupboards are supplied as per our Floor Cupboards with varying numbers of shelves. Our Bedroom Cupboards and Wardrobes both have a Beech veneered ply interior.

Screens

Our screens are made of blackened steel and have a satin lacquered finish. They are available glazed or unglazed, with a choice of 4mm toughened clear or reeded glass. The doors are fit with oval brass handles as standard. They are not lockable but the catch is a Union Brass latch. Designed for interior use only.

Worktops & Upstands

Worktops are 30mm thick and made from staves approximately 100mm wide. Upstands are 50mm high and 20mm thick and made from full length staves. We would not recommend exceeding 250mm where the worktop is not supported. Our Oak and Douglas Fir our Osmo oiled and our Iroko is Teak oiled.

Accessories

Internal and external accessories. Our cornicing, shelves, brackets and fairy racks are made from solid timber, top coated white, ready for painting. Our Utensil & Cutlery Divisions are made from solid Beech to match the interior of your drawers.

Ironmongery

Our Turn Catches are hand cast in solid brass and Drawer Pulls are stamped out of brass. The Knobs are machined in solid brass and Iron and come in a mixture of front and rear fix options. The turned Oak knob comes unfinished with a front fixed face screw.
