A potter's kitchen. Having coveted British Standard Cupboards for several years, when it came to renovating his home, Scottish potter and maker Samuel Sparrow approached the British Standard design team with measurements and the requirements for his kitchen renovation.
The design team got to work creating a floor plan that provided an open feel with plenty of opportunity for storage and display. A generously sized fridge-freezer was cleverly integrated into a wide double-height unit with adjoining larder, and the boiler discreetly tucked away inside a tall cupboard. The kitchen island works hard with a sink, pull-out bin, and dishwasher to one side, and a mix of closed cupboards and open shelving to the other - perfect for displaying Samuel’s wheel-thrown tableware and collected objects.

The result is an open, light kitchen with all the working elements kept to one side and a family-friendly dining table with bench seating on the other, offering balance to the room. The simple detailing of our Stowupland door provided Samuel with the opportunity to inject his own creative style into the space. He painted them in ‘Piha Green’ by Atelier Ellis, and paired them with white marble worktops to encourage natural light to flood into the room from the skylight windows above. Iron handles were chosen as a nod to the owner's own passion for handcrafted objects. Tastefully styled by Samuel - he has created a brilliantly modern family kitchen.
