How does the Collection process work?
Collection Date - After placing your order online, you will receive a collection date from our accounts team within 48 hours. You are then welcome to collect your Cupboards as of this date. You must then respond to our email confirming your desired collection time and date; this books your collection. We have limited collection slots and they are allocated on a first come first served basis, so please do this as soon as you’re able to as without your response your Cupboards won’t be made available for you to collect.
On your piece of paper sketch the shape of your kitchen taking into consideration all the ‘ins and outs’, this is just a survey so the lengths of line don’t have to be totally accurate but it does have to be topographically correct ie all the ‘ins and outs’ have to be correct. Don’t forget to mark on the doors and windows along with the architraves around them (these often get overlooked).
Courier Companies - You don’t have to collect the Cupboards yourself: you can nominate someone to collect on your behalf. In either case we will need to know who will be collecting your cupboards, so please add this information to your email. Please contact the showroom for courier contact information.
Renting a Van - Please double check the length of the van you are using. The length of a hire van will usually include the cab area, and you need to have a sufficient length in the box of the van to accommodate any Worktops and Upstands. Remember, our Cupboards are supplied fully assembled!
Some courier companies will want to know the weight of the delivery. You can find this information, alongside dimensions, on the product pages of our website. Please click on your chosen Cupboards and this information will be shown on the next page.
The Cupboards are heavy, so if you are collecting yourself you will need to bring somebody who can assist. Children under the age of 16 are not permitted in the collection area due to Health and Safety regulations.
On the day of collection - You will need to bring I.D. with you if collecting the Cupboards yourself. Alternatively supply I.D. when confirming the details of your designated courier service and ask them to bring I.D. with them to collect. Suitable I.D. will be the credit card you used to buy the kitchen, or your driving license with your address details.
We will also post a Collection Note to your card address that you will need to bring with you and sign, once you have satisfactorily taken receipt of your goods.

You are welcome to collect between 8am and 4pm, Monday to Friday (Saturdays, limited collection, please call for availability).
The Cupboards will be shrink-wrapped, but we advise you to use packing blankets in addition for extra protection. These are inexpensive and can be bought from www.packingboxes.co.uk
Please note - Once you have confirmed your collection date this will be booked into our workshop schedule. We can hold your order for collection 10 days from the date above. Any delay of collection will incur a storage charge of £50 per week.
How do I know what to order if there is no design service?
Once you have established a plan, either by using the Design Pack or any other method that you may prefer, we ask that you list the items you think you need to order and send this into us together with your plan. We will look over both of these for you and come back with any suggestions or items you may have missed. If at any point you are unclear please just ask.
What should I do if I have placed my order but not yet received a confirmation email?
Firstly go to your online account and check that you have entered your email address correctly. If this is incorrect please contact us at our Hoxton showroom and we will point you in the right direction.
However if your email address is correct, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
How does the Collection process work?
The framework that you see painted white is made of solid Poplar - the central panels to our Doors are made of MDF to achieve a neat beading detail along the panel edges.
Our Carcasses are made of White Melamine Faced Birch Ply panels.
The Cupboards come primed and top coated in an off-white colour, that acts as an under-coat for your final choice of colour, of which we would recommend a minimum of two coats for greater protection.
All of our Drawers are made of solid Beech, Poplar and Beech veneered Ply - the sides are all dovetailed together.
What is the best paint to use?
Any paint really, though we would generally recommend going for an Oil Based paint in an Eggshell finish. To offer a little interest across the Cupboards, consider playing around with the finish such as using a gloss on a stand alone run or set of Cupboards to mix up the texture within the room.
For colours, look at Little Greene Paint Co, Papers and Paints and Farrow & Ball.
What if I need to cancel an item?
You are welcome to cancel an item at any point up to 30 days after receiving your Cupboards. If you want to cancel an item, or a complete order simply send an email clearly stating the item/s you wish to remove from your order to email@example.com.
Please reference your order number and the name used when placing your original order and we will contact you soon after to arrange your refund.
I want to add an extra item after my initial order is placed, what should I do?
If you realise you need to add additional items to an order please let us know as soon as possible, as during busy periods we may be making the cupboards to order so we can’t necessarily guarantee we will have an item in stock. The sooner you let us know the more likely it is that you will be able to pick up all your items at once. However if the additional items are not available then the standard production time may apply and you may need to think about the best way to co ordinate your collections with this in mind.
How long will you store my cupboards for before I am charged a fee?
As we have limited storage capacity we can only store assembled cupboards for 10 days before we will need to start charging for the service. However if you wish to place your order far in advance of when you wish to collect your cupboards please just let us know via email and we can then plan and agree an appropriate later date for us to construct your cupboards.
What guarantee do the cupboards have? Is there a warranty?
Unfortunately we do not offer a warranty. This is because we do not fit our cupboards, so cannot guarantee that any adaptations or amendments the fitters may make will be suitable. We are happy to advise on fitting to help this process.
What is your sustainability / green policy?
All of our wood is FSC Certified and hand-crafted in the UK, in a small Suffolk workshop. In this way we reduce our Carbon Footprint arising from freight as much as possible. Most of our wood is sourced from Europe, and our cupboards are made from all wood, with only one MDF panel for detailing and strength over time. The process of MDF manufacture, with the glues and chemicals involved, can be extremely damaging to the environment. We try to reduce our dependence on this as much as possible. One of our strongest environmental attributes is the longevity of our kitchens. We manufacture in such a way that a kitchen lifespan of 30 years plus is easily achievable with adequate care. Our styling is also simple, and will not fade with the fashions. Shaker style kitchens have been popular since the 1800’s. This reduces wastage from refitting.
Can I paint the interiors?
Due to the melamine facing on the interiors of our cupboards, painting over this is generally not possible. Our Glazed Cupboards come with a raw ply interior, however, to enable easy painting.
Can I position my hob over any cupboard?
This depends on the depth of the hob. We find that most modern Induction hobs are possible to mount in the worktop and do not require additional depth. A heat proof mat underneath is sufficient to shield the cupboards from damage. For deeper hobs, it is possible to recess a hob above on of our large Single Cupboards, or above one of our Double Cupboards. For very wide hobs, your joiner will usually be able to trim down the sides of our cupboards to make it fit. We can of course advise you on this.
Does my floor need to be laid before installing my kitchen?
We always recommend that any flooring be fully installed across the whole room before the cupboards are installed. Ideally the cupboards would always be scribed to sit on top of your flooring.
What is the lead time?
Due to a successful January Sale, we are now looking to process orders ready for collection 12 - 16 weeks after your order is confirmed. We will confirm your collection date on receipt of your order. Please phone the office for a more accurate estimate if your order is date critical. Thank you.
How do I order ironmongery?
Ironmongery is available for purchase on our website. We offer four styles: Round Knob, Drawer Pull, Turn Catches and Push Catches. There are three finishes available: Raw Iron (Black), Chrome, or Tourmaline (Brass). All of our cupboards come fitted with magnetic catches on the doors.
Can you fit my kitchen?
We don’t currently offer any fitting service or have any fitters’ details that we can supply.
How do we know which appliances will fit?
Our cupboards are designed to suit most standard sized inbuilt appliances. Dimensions are available on our website or by enquiring with one of our team.
Do you offer discounts / will there be a sale?
There are never any annual sales or discounts available on British Standard Cupboards.
If I want to Zero rate the VAT on my cupboards can you sell them less the VAT?
Your cupboards do in fact qualify for zero rate VAT. This is something you need to definitively establish and then claim back from HMRC after sale, as we are not able to supply the cupboards without VAT added.
Do I need to employ a professional carpenter to fit my cupboards?
We provide a Fitting Guide along with your order. Most builders, joiners or carpenters will be able to follow this guide, and fit your kitchen.
