Ideal Home Show W12

We were honoured when The Prince’s Trust asked us to design and fit a kitchen for The Prince’s House, the centerpiece of the 2012 Ideal Home Show. The Prince’s House set out to demonstrate that mid-priced houses could be made from predominately UK-sourced, environmentally sustainable materials and designed in a simple, vernacular manner. The Trust wanted to use joinery that would last as long as the house did, and painted cupboards that could easily be refreshed with a lick of paint and a change of ironmongery fitted the brief. In effect a kitchen that could stand the test of time without harming the environment or the bank balance. It was here that we launched the British Standard brand.
Alongside The Prince’s House we took a show stand in The Prince’s Pavilion, deciding to make it look utilitarian and British with a flavour of Pre and Post Second World War Britain. Our kitchen featured tongue and groove walls, surface mounted plumbing, a reclaimed sink (too shallow to fit in our Single Undersink Cupboard – but as we loved it so much improvised so as to include it), and to complete the look, an Esse woodburning range.
And, for a bit of fun as the stand was so tall, we painted a tide line around the kitchen through stacked wall cupboards, a look that has since become very popular in kitchen design!
Oooh, and Prince Charles came to visit……………
